I purchased the d3100 from Amazon after a lot of research and discussion with friends that own various DSLRs. Despite opinions, there aren't that many differences between Canon and Nikon at this level of camera. I believe it comes down to the features that you want, the included accessories and the best deal. In the end, this package was the clear winner. I also was able to get a free 16gb card and a nice basic case and my first impressions of outdoor landscape shots and indoor action shots are excellent. My most basic advice is DO NOT purchase a camera based on megapixels alone. If you are looking for a great entry level DSLR, with a great package of accessories, look no further. For under $500, you can't beat it!

Great camera for anyone looking for a DSLR. Don't buy this if you want a super high-def screen, high FPS rate or anything along the lines of that, however this camera is still more than capable of producing quality images.
Pros:
Great Lens with Kit (18-55)
Quality Video
Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Program Modes as well as multiple other auto modes
Good Button Set-up
Small
Cons:
Plastic Body
Screen a little grainy
Lenses usually more expensive than Canon
Video can be grainy in low light.
Can be difficult to learn to use.
Recommended for anyone looking for a super low priced DSLR, who doesn't mind sacrificing some features for some extra cash. Check out the Rebel T4i however for something similar, but with better video and screen quality (a little more $)

This item has been on the market for a while and is still going strong. That alone should tell you something if you're considering buying one. I bought this for my wife on her birthday (2 birthday's ago actually). She loves it, it takes great photos and still operates like brand new. If you need a more extensive review, there are plenty of them out there. Great SLR product, great SLR price.
